It's been a little while and some things have happened.
I have been reading!
Starseed. A little. Exclusively in my therapist's waiting room. It's a good book so far at least! There's some racialized language that wouldn't fly these days, but outside of that it's a neat premise and I'm enjoying the main character so far.
I got more books.
I went to the bookstore on a date with my girlfriend and wound up buying a few haha.
- A Harvest of Hearts by Andrea Eames
I'm a big Howl's Moving Castle fan (my first Christian Bale role and boy do I have a crush), and this is exactly the style of "Tiktok book" I'm looking for. I have such a strange fascination with this style of book and I'm interested to get into it. - A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas
From what I know this is the one that started it all, the series that kicked off the Tiktok Romantasy trend I'm so drawn to. So, naturally, I had to grab it when I saw it. - Gild by Raven Kennedy
In a similar vein, this one is a retelling of the myth of Midas. I haven't read any of the cool-seeming Greek retellings yet, so I hope this one is good or at least fun. - Mapping the Interior by Stephen Grahan Jones
This one was the "$5 with cafe purchase" book when I was going to get my delicious cheesecake. It's a horror novella with some kind of back-from-the-dead component. The last horror novella I got for $5 with cafe purchase was Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw so I feel good about this purchase.
I also signed up for Book of the Month, until I found out about them platforming an author who uses AI to "write" books - but that got me two new hardcovers in the meantime.
- Silver Elite by Dani Francis
I have started reading this book. I think I'm on page 8. It's... definitely got a big cringe factor. We got the main character looking in the mirror and describing herself. We got her being the secret best firearm shooter in the area. I'm enjoying it, though I do have to take frequent breaks. - Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab
This one has a really neat premise. It's a vampire book, which I'm always here for, but it follows 3 different characters across 3 different time periods. I've seen people praising other work by this author, so I think it should be pretty good.
